Welcoming the Royals: The Archival Legacy (http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/exhibits/jubilee/intro.htm) is the title of a virtual, multimedia exhibit created by the BC Archives to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, her visit to the province in October 2002, and visits by previous members of the British Royal family. |

The British Columbia Historical Federation and David Mattison are jointly sponsoring a yearly cash award ($250.00) to recognize Web sites, longer than one page, that contribute to the understanding and appreciation of British Columbia's past. Judgment will be based on historical content, layout, design and ease of use. The award honors individual initiative in writing and presentation. Nominations for the BC Historical Web Site Prize must be made to the British Columbia Historical Federation, Web Site Prize Committee, prior to 31 December of each year. Web site creators and authors may nominate their own sites. Congratulations to Christopher Garrish, winner of the third $250 British Columbia Web Site Prize, for his British Columbia License Plates: A History (also known as BCpl8s.ca at http://www.bcpl8s.ca). The prize was the idea of David Mattison, and is sponsored by the British Columbia Historical Federation and David Mattison. It is awarded to a web site of more than a single page that contributes to an understanding and appreciation of British Columbia's past. It is meant to honour individual initiative. Government, SchoolNet/Canada's Digital Collections and academic institutional sites are not eligible. The award was announced at the British Columbia Historical Federation's annual convention on May 2002 in Revelstoke. |

This interdisciplinary conference welcomes proposals for panels and papers from all areas of BC Studies, including history, literature, geography, sociology, anthropology, ethnohistory, political science, and education.
Be creative and send us your ideas for a panel, paper presentation, or workshop. Proposals should include a title, an abstract of 100-150 words, and some information about yourself, including institutional affiliation and departments, degrees, recent positions and publications relevant to the subject matter of the conference or your presentation. Also, please contact us if you are interested in being a discussant or participating in the program in some other way.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 30 September 2002. Send proposals and suggestions to:

Not all entries in the BC History Web Portal will be classified or have a description. The focus will be on transferring entries from the existing British Columbia History Internet/Web Site (http://www.victoria.tc.ca/bchistory.html) so it can be decommissioned. |
