On Sunday May 13, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Newcombe Conference Hall, Royal BC Museum, Victoria, the Friends of the B.C. Archives will be presenting a lecture by Dr. Leslie Dawn of the University of Lethbridge Art History Department. Dr. Dawn will be talking about Mungo Martin and the "lost" totem poles he carved for the 1939 World's Fair.

Thursday, May 10, 2007: A one-day symposium entitled, Heritage & Tourism - Compatibility or Conflict? will be offered by the Victoria Historical Society and the Old Cemeteries Society of Victoria, featuring high-profile panelists and a public discussion on this important topic. This event will be held at the Harbour Towers Hotel & Suites at 345 Quebec Street, from 9 am through 4.30 pm. Tickets will be available at door for $30 (BC Seniors and students $25). Please be prepared to pay by cheque. |

Tuesday, May 1, 2007: The Hallmark Society honours outstanding achievement in the field of heritage preservation, conservation, restoration and advocacy at its Annual Awards Night. The evening will include a slide show of award winning projects, the presentation of awards and the presentation of heritage designation plaques by local municipalities. The event will be held at St. Ann's Academy Auditorium, 835 Humboldt Street at 7:30pm. Cost is $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Hallmark office at 382-4755. |

The Victoria Historical Society meeting on Thursday, May 24, 2007, will feature speakers Arnold Ranneris and Lori Hewitt, volunteer archivist and staff member of the YM/YWCA, will speak on the history of "Victoria's YMCA and YWCA". The meeting will be at the James Bay New Horizons Centre, 234 Menzies Street at 7:30pm. Visitors are welcome. |
