Multicultural Canada Conference, May-June 2006

The Multicultural Canada Conference: Our Diverse Heritage is to be held May 31,-June 2, 2006 at Simon Fraser University's downtown Vancouver campus. The Multicultural Canada Project (www.multiculturalcanada.ca) is committed to making historical records widely available by working collaboratively with institutions, governments,and individuals to digitze these materials.


The Multicultural Canada Project and the Conference are the initiative of Lynn Copeland, University Librarian and Dean of Library Services, SFU.


The Conference opens the evening of May 31,2006 with a keynote speaker. This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome. The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with opening remarks, followed by the keynote speaker and a reception. The location is the Asia Pacific Hall, Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver.


The Multicultural Partners include Simon Fraser University, University of Calgary, the Sien Lok Society of Calgary, Multicultural History Society of Ontario, University of Toronto,University of Victoria and the Vancouver Public Library amongst others.


Victoria Historical Society meeting, March 23, 2006

The Victoria Historical Society meeting on Thursday, March 23, 2006 features speaker Rosemary James Cross. She will speak on her book The Life and Times of Victoria Architect P. Leonard James. The meeting will be at the James Bay New Horizons Centre, 234 Menzies Street at 7:30pm. Visitors are welcome.
Hallmark Society meeting, February 20, 2006

The Hallmark Society's Heritage Week meeting on Monday, February 20, 2006, will feature four local authors: Jennifer Nell Barr on This Old House Volume Two - James Bay; Rosemary James Cross on The Life and Times of Victoria Architect P. Leonard James; James Colwill on The Automotive Mascot - A Design in Motion; and Ken Roueche on A Fairfield History. The meeting will be at the James Bay United Church, 511 Michigan Street, Victoria, at 7:30pm. Admission by donation.

The British Columbia Genealogical Society presents Ken Aitken, family history lecturer, in seminar & lecture sessions, in Surrey & Burnaby, B.C., Canada, March 24 and 25, 2006

March 24, 2006 evening discussion seminar, "Solving Complex Research Problems" and March 25, 2006 daytime lectures & analysis session: "Distance Learning", "Canadian Border Entry Records" & "Evaluating Birth Marriage & Death Information".
