The Archives Association of British Columbia published a booklet, Building Archives and Communities: Stories of Success and Good Fortune in 2004, that can be downloaded as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. The booklet, compiled and produced by Fred Braches on behalf of the AABC, describes the accomplishments and activities of 28 community archives in BC in 2004.
International Museum Day in Greater Victoria Region

Various museums, heritage sites and art galleries in the Greater Victoria Region will be celebrating International Museum Day on Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19, 2005, with half-price admission between 10 am and 4:30 pm.


Participating venues include the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria; CFB Esquimalt Naval & Military Museum; Craigdarroch Castle; Craigflower Manor and Schoolhouse; Emily Carr House; Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites of Canada; Hudson's Bay Company Gallery; Point Ellice House; Maltwood Art Museum & Gallery (University of Victoria); Royal BC Museum; and St. Ann's Academy.

Canadian costume treasures exhibit, May 19-22, 2005

The Canadiana Costume Museum and Archives of British Columbia is holding a showcase exhibit titled Treasures of the Collection, original clothing from 1780 to 1930, at the Saanich Fairgrounds (Gallery Building), 1528 Stellys Cross Road, Saanichton, from May 19 to 22, 2005 between 10 am and 5 pm each day. Admission is $5.00.


Experts will be on hand to offer evaluations of medals and other insignia between 1 and 4 pm (May 19), lace (May 20), clothing, textiles, jewelry and small personal items (May 21). On May 22 there will be a lace making demonstration.

Hallmark Society Awards Night, May 3, 2005

The Hallmark Society honours outstanding achievement in the field of heritage preservation, conservation, restoration and advocacy at its Annual Awards Night. The evening of Tuesday, May 3, 2005, will include a slide show of award winning projects, the presentation of awards and the presentation of heritage designation plaques by local municipalities. The event will be held at St. Ann's Academy Auditorium, 835 Humboldt Street at 8:00 pm. Cost is $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Hallmark office at 382-4755.
